One of the best parts of possessing a creative mind is the ability to improvise when you can’t afford something you want. Case in point: the patterned geometric planters that are ubiquitous on Pinterest and home decor boutiques of a certain nature. Last week I was buying an aloe plant when I realized my planters at home were seriously lacking – and seventy dollar replacements weren’t in the budget.
Enter oil-based Sharpies, one of the most versatile craft supplies. I used gold, white, and black (plus a silver pen on reserve) to draw some simple triangles onto terracotta planters. After a half hour of drawing triangles in a meditative trance, I had a fitting home for my new aloe plant.
